What is a Caregiver?

A caregiver is an individual who provides assistance and support to adults who need help with daily activities due to illness, disability, or aging. They offer physical, emotional, and sometimes medical support, ensuring the well-being and comfort of their care recipients. Caregivers play a crucial role in maintaining the independence and quality of life of those they care for, fostering a nurturing and supportive environment.

At MetroCare, caregivers receive training from our skilled nurse technicians to effectively perform their duties. As senior companions, our caregivers can live and work in various settings such as residential homes and group homes.

Caregivers will be trained to provide:

  • Companionship for seniors, including emotional support and encouragement.
  • Assistance with daily activities such as grooming and toileting.
  • Administration of medications and monitoring of health.
  • Overall well-being management, including hot meals for seniors.

Financial Support

MetroCare’s Adult Foster Care and Group Adult Foster Care programs, funded by MassHealth, provide a tax-free monthly income to caregivers. Caregivers can receive up to $1,500 per month, plus room and board per client, depending on the level of care required. Many clients already live with family members who could qualify as caregivers and receive these monthly payments while in their residential homes.

Do you take care of someone at home? How would you like to be paid for the work you already do?  If you or someone you know needs assistance with daily activities, consider becoming a MetroCare caregiver. Join our family support center.
